Terms of Service

Effective May 25, 2026
Plain English

You pay once, you can install Aureo on the devices your store account allows, you can do what you like with it within the law. We don't promise it's bug-free, but Quebec law guarantees you a working product and we honour that. If you have a dispute with us, it lands in Montréal courts.

By installing or using Aureo, you agree to these terms. They form a contract between you and KS Studios S.E.N.C. ("KS Studios", "we", "us"), a partnership registered in Quebec, Canada.

1. License

We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, personal license to install and use Aureo on devices you own or control. This license applies to all updates within the same major version series (for example, 1.x).

If you purchased through Apple, the license follows Apple's Standard EULA usage rules, including Family Sharing among your Apple Family Group. If you purchased through Google Play, you may install Aureo on every device associated with your Google account, subject to Google's Play Store terms.

2. What you can do

  • Use Aureo on as many devices as your store license allows
  • Use Aureo for personal, commercial, or any lawful purpose
  • Connect Aureo to any Home Assistant instance you control

3. What you can't do

  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute Aureo as a standalone product
  • Reverse-engineer the app beyond what Canadian law permits for interoperability and security research
  • Use Aureo to violate anyone's privacy, including running camera or intercom features without the consent of people on the other end
  • Use Aureo for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that violates Apple's or Google's store terms

4. Store terms also apply

Apple's App Store Terms and Google's Play Store Terms apply to purchases and installations made through those platforms. Where their terms conflict with ours regarding your relationship with the store, theirs apply.

5. Updates

We may release updates that change, remove, or add features. Updates within the 1.x series are included with your original purchase. Major upgrades (2.0 and beyond) may be offered as separate paid releases.

We may also discontinue Aureo. If we do, the app you've already installed continues to function as long as your device and Home Assistant support it. We don't have a kill switch.

6. Warranties

Aureo is provided as-is, except for warranties that cannot be excluded under Quebec's Consumer Protection Act and the Civil Code of Québec. Those warranties — including the legal warranty of quality (article 1726 C.C.Q.) and the warranty against latent defects — apply by force of law and are not affected by these terms.

We do our best to make Aureo work well on a wide range of tablets and Home Assistant configurations. We cannot guarantee compatibility with every device, every camera, or every Home Assistant integration. We document supported platforms on the marketing page and update that list as it changes.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Quebec law, our total liability for any claim arising from your use of Aureo is limited to the amount you paid for the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability for damages that cannot be limited under Quebec law, including damages caused by intentional or gross fault.

8. Termination

You can stop using Aureo at any time by uninstalling it. We can terminate your license if you materially breach these terms — for example, by distributing the app or using it for unlawful purposes. If we terminate your license without serious cause on your part, we will refund the unused portion of your purchase.

9. Apple App Store provisions

If you obtained Aureo from the Apple App Store or Mac App Store, the following additional terms apply:

  • Apple is not responsible for Aureo or its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Aureo.
  • If Aureo fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, who will refund the purchase price. Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to Aureo.
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim by you or any third party relating to Aureo or your use of it.
  • Apple is not responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, or discharge of any third-party intellectual property claim relating to Aureo.
  • You must comply with applicable third-party terms of agreement when using Aureo.
  • Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and have the right to enforce them against you.

10. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any dispute that cannot be resolved through good-faith discussion shall be brought before the courts of the judicial district of Montréal.
